Kurt grew up in Warminster, Pennsylvania. With a number of musicians on both sides of his family, it’s no surprise that he got the bug to sing. He has been singing since elementary school. He began studying voice privately with his middle school chorus teacher when he was in 8th grade. In high school, he performed in musicals as well, including Once Upon a Mattress and The Sound of Music.
Though he truly wanted to pursue a career in music, Kurt ultimately chose what he thought was a more practical path: studying computer science at The University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn, he had a brief stint with the Penn Glee Club before forming an a cappella quartet called Four Score with a few friends from high school. After graduating from Penn, he stuck around to work in IT at The Wharton School for nine years while also earning a master’s degree in technology management. It was during this time when he met his future husband, Eric. Together they moved to Villanova and started a family.
Kurt became a stay-at-home parent, giving him the opportunity to return to music and singing. In 2012, he began studying privately with Heidi Hayes of Bryn Mawr, with whom he continues to study today. In 2015, he played Dr. Neville Craven in Bryn Athyn Community Theater’s production of The Secret Garden. He has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Opera Theater, and VoxAmaDeus, and he sang backup for Sarah Brightman at two local stops on her A Christmas Symphony tour in 2021.
Kurt currently sings at St. John Lutheran Church in Blue Bell. He is also very active at his temple, Beth David Reform Congregation in Gladwyne, singing in the choir and playing Haman in the Purim spiel every year since 2020.
